Albany Convention Center
The Albany Convention Center Authority was created in 2004 as a public benefit corporation under the New York State Public Authorities Act.
The Authority was created to meet an immediate need to institute a comprehensive, coordinated program of convention activities in the city of Albany. It will provide the City of Albany with the ability to develop, renovate and undertake economic development projects in the historic downtown area to optimize the economic and social activities of city and its environs.
The Authority consists of nine members, three appointed by the Governor of New York State, one appointed by the Temporary President of the Senate, one member appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly. Two members are appointed by the Mayor of the City of Albany, with the advice and consent of the Common Council and two members are appointed by the Albany County Executive, with the advice and consent of the County Legislature. All appointments are required to be approved by the County Legislature. The Chair and each of the members of the Authority are appointed for four-year terms and serve until their successor is appointed. All members of the board shall serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority.
