Lead Grants

Under the leadership of Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, since 1997, the City of Albany Community Development Agency (ACDA) has received Twenty Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($23,500,000.00) from HUD’s Lead Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program.

Since 1997, the ACDA has completed Lead Abatement and Rehabilitation in over 1079 units. The City’s Lead program has shown it is effective in managing grant operations as well as meeting performance and work plan benchmarks.

The ACDA is one of the eleven communities in the United States of America that currently operates a highly successful Lead Hazard Control Program. Since receiving Lead funding in August 1997, the Agency has provided the following contributions in making a positive impact in the community:

  • Created a Lead-Safe Registry of 1079 units available for low-income residents, primarily with children under six.
  • Over 510 children under 6 year of age live in the 1079 units that were made lead safe.
  • Over 340 families receiving Lead assistance were temporarily relocated to the Agency’s Lead-Safe relocation site during Lead Abatement.

The City of Albany has developed the infrastructure and capacity that has provided Lead-safe housing units throughout the City of Albany.
