The Ladder Company

These units are sometimes referred to as Ladder Company, truck company, aerial ladders or hook and ladder trucks. Their normal function Ladder Truck and Equipmentis to provide access above and below grade by means of ladders.

The tractor drawn aerial is shown above with some of its many tools and appliances.

Each of the tractor drawn aerial ladders (Ladders 1, 2, and 4) is equipped with a 100' aerial ladder device. Ladder 3 is a straight, rear mount, which is 75’ in length. In addition, all carry a full compliment of ground ladders such as 2 - 35' extension ladders, a 28' extension, 12', 14' and 20' roof ladders, collapsible ladder and an 8' "A" frame ladder.

These ladder companies also carry devices for elevated hose streams, special water appliances, forcible entry tools, overhaul and salvage equipment, self contained breathing apparatus, fans, circular saws and chain saws.

All Ladder Companies are equipped to handle B.L.S. calls. They carry automatic cardiac defibrillators, oxygen resuscitator, suction units, and all the related E.M.S. basic life support equipment to ensure proper patient care.

The primary function of the ladder company crew is the rescue of trapped occupants, treatment of injured parties (both fire related and E.M.S. related), forcible entry, ventilation, the search for extension of fire, salvage and overhaul.
