The Adopt A Block Program
What is the Albany Adopt a Block/Lot Program?
It is a program for civic-minded individuals; business or organizations willing to volunteer a small amount of their time or employees’ time to help keep the streets and sidewalks clean in the vacinity of their property or business location.
The program can also be tailored to include beautification projects such as flower planting and maintenance of traffic islands or small public places. The program recognizes that the streets, sidewalks and public spaces are an extension of our individual private properties. When streets, sidewalks and public areas are beautified and kept clean and free from litter, it reflects well on the quality of life and neighborhood character for everyone. Beautification begins at home! The program can also be used to adopt vacant lots in the vacinity of a home, business or property. Many organizations especially not for profit and businesses have a well-developed sense of volunteerism and “Giving something back” to the community, and we hope to solicit their involvement.
How Does the Program Work?
A property owner, business or organization is matched with a block or lot, usually adjacent to their property or location. The City and the participant sign a formal agreement. The agreement lists the city’s responsibilities to provide certain support services, and the participants commitments will vary depending on the location, whether it is a single household or a not for profit organiz |
