COMPOST FACILITY

City of Albany compost is pure yard waste compost. Only brush, branches, leaves, and grass clippings collected from Albany residents or deposited directly at the Compost Facility are used to make City of Albany Compost.

Wood chips are also produced at the Compost Facility from organic waste collected throughout the city. Included in this is several thousand Christmas trees collected curbside annually.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to noon, and 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

 

Residents:

Compost and wood chips can be obtained free of charge by city residents 7 days a week at the "Help Yourself " pick up station at the dead end of Erie Blvd. There is a maximum limit of (5) five-gallon buckets per resident per visit upon availability.

Non - Residents & Commercial Generators:

Yardwaste is accepted at the Compost Facility at a cost of $10.00 per cubic yard from non-residents and commercial generators. The attendant on duty reserves the right to not accept any material deemed contaminated, excessive volumes, oversized items, or otherwise inappropriate for the compost processing equipment. Note: Any yardwaste containing stones or rocks will be refused.

Non-residents and commercial generators may purchase compost or woodchips at a cost of $10.00 per cubic yard. All transactions must be paid for at the Department of General Services Main Office prior to receiving their compost. Under no circumstances will payments be accepted at the compost facility itself. Commercial or Not-for Profit interests may obtain a permit and they will be billed monthly for the quantities purchased. For a copy of the permit application, please call (518) 869-3651.
