Collection of Yard Waste

The City of Albany, Department of General Services collects yardwaste
curbside from residential dwellings with (4) four or fewer units located on a single property. All yardwaste must be bagged in a biodegradable paper bag or bundled appropriately. Yardwaste is collected weekly weather permitting on the resident’s scheduled pick up day normally between the hours of 3:00 p.m. & 11:00 p.m.

According to the Codes for the City of Albany, Section 313-4B(2), Grass, leaves and other yard waste debris shall be placed in biodegradable paper bags approved for such use and / or made available by the City of Albany and placed curbside on the scheduled trash collection day.

Residents are NOT permitted to rake or place their yard waste loosely into the city streets for collection. Raking leaves into the streets creates an unnecessary burden on the street sweepers and results in the leaf loads consuming valuable landfill space when they should be organically recycled.

Violators of this code can be subject to a fine up to $50 per violation plus cost of clean up.
