ALBANY, NY – Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Chief City Auditor Dr. Dorcey Applyrs, City Treasurer Darius Shahinfar, and Common Council President Corey Ellis have released the following statement:

“Since the first two cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in Albany County on March 12, 2020, Albany has come together in ways unimaginable before the pandemic. Our community has worked together to feed the hungry, distribute PPE, connect our neighbors with healthcare resources, and equitably distribute the COVID vaccine. The statewide 70% vaccination milestone just announced by Governor Cuomo removes many of the restrictions in place however we must recognize many of the ZIP codes in the City of Albany have vaccination rates below 60%, despite the valiant efforts of multiple community partners who have focused on the equitable distribution of COVID vaccines throughout our City. We call on every Albany resident who has not yet but is interested in being vaccinated do so as soon as possible. We also encourage residents who are hesitant about being vaccinated to contact their doctor, trusted community member, or leader with health expertise to ask questions and share concerns. Our ability to put this pandemic fully behind us hinges directly on vaccinating as many people as possible.”
