Poulomi Sen earned her master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at UAlbany, and during that time she also worked in the Office of Campus Planning. Prior to coming to this country, she worked in India as a Project Manager for Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Limited, where she oversaw the facility planning involving flow of traffic, people and materials around company facilities.
“In some ways, it was exactly like planning, but that work was driven by the revenues and profit margins. The planning I do now is people-driven and focused on improving the quality of life in Albany.”
In her job, Poulomi reviews café permits, small cell wireless applications, and has taken the lead on projects such as the Walk America grant, the Linkage Grant, Shoreline Stabilization Project along the Hudson River, and is assisting in the redevelopment of Brownfield Opportunity Areas. “I enjoy seeing projects through from beginning to end. You learn so much that way, and I’m learning all the time.”
Outside of work Poulomi has less serious plans. She loves being silly with her young son and hopes that she can finally learn to play the ukulele this year.
