Aquatic Policies/Pool Rules

  • Lifeguards/Managers are the authority at the pool and their directions MUST be followed.
  • Proof of residency must be shown to access any City of Albany Pool.
  • An adult MUST accompany children under the age of 14.
    • Unaccompanied children (under 14) will be told to leave the water and sit on the pool deck until their guardian has returned.
  • Non or weak swimmers can only swim in the pool's shallow end.
    • Guardians of non or weak swimmers must always remain in arms reach.
  • Pools will be closed if thunder or lightning is detected within a 10-mile radius or for any other danger to safety.
  • Children under the age of 3 or who are not fully toilet trained MUST wear a swim diaper with a swimsuit or rubber pants overtop.
    • Regular diapers are not designed for water use and are not permitted.
  • Individuals with ongoing or persistent diarrhea are not permitted to swim.
    • A fecal contamination will cause the pool to close down.
  • Urination in the pool is not permitted and causes the water to become cloudy.
    • When staff can no longer see the pool bottom it must be closed.
  • Pollution of the pool water via spitting or nose-blowing is not permitted.
  • Chewing gum or tobacco is not permitted at any time.
  • Appropriate swimwear is required at all times.
    • No jeans, pants, or shoes.
      • Exceptions - At the discretion of the Manager on Duty (MOD).
  • No toys, flotation devices, masks/fins, or inflatables are permitted in the pool.
    • Only Coastguard-approved lifejackets can be used.
  • Swim test: All swimmers who wish to swim in water over their head may be subject to a swim test before being allowed in the deeper area.
    • Swim the width of the pool on their front showing a productive stroke (no doggy paddle) without stopping, touching the bottom, or holding on to the walls.
  • No running, horseplay, or foul language is permitted.
  • No chairs, coolers, food, speakers, cans, or glass bottles are allowed in the pool area. Sealed plastic bottles or empty reusable water bottles will be permitted in the pool area. 
  • No alcohol, drugs, smoking, or vaping is permitted in the pool area or facility grounds.
  • No animals are permitted in the pool area.
  • Drinking the pool water is not recommended, due to the chemicals used and can cause illness.
  • Open wounds or cuts must be properly covered to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Repeated infractions of the Pool Rules will lead to expulsion from the pool.

Security Reminder for Pool Guests
To ensure the safety of everyone at the pool, all visitors will be required to go through security checks upon entry. These checks will include bag inspections and screening with a handheld metal detector (wanding).
