Albany, NY – Mayor Kathy Sheehan and the City of Albany Equity Agenda Committee are hosting a Youth Speak-Out in collaboration with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., SUNY University at Albany, Bridge The Gap Resource & Outreach Inc., NAACP, A Block At A Time, Gun Violence Task Force Community Collective, and many participating organizations to address community violence.

The Speak-Out will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. via Zoom. Participants must register in advance.  Opportunities and resources will be shared during the program.

“This Youth Speak-Out is designed to ensure we are listening to our younger residents and hearing their thoughts about how we can prevent community violence,” said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan. “As part of this event, we will also be connecting youth with the vital and specific resources to help them think about their future they want for themselves – whether it’s going to college, getting a certification, or entering the workforce. I want to thank all of the partner organizations involved in planning and presenting this event and look forward to an ongoing collaboration to address community violence and help our younger residents succeed.”

The Speak-Out is sponsored by Congressman Paul D. Tonko, Capital Region Boys and Girls Club, Youth FX, and the City of Albany.

The Speak-Out collaborators and sponsors are uniting with the community with a mission to prioritize the elimination of community violence, create opportunities for youth development, particularly for those that are disconnected and underserved, and enhance public safety and the quality of life for youth and the entire community.
