ALBANY, NY – City Treasurer Darius Shahinfar has announced "Voids for Vaccines" – a new initiative designed to encourage residents to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine in exchange for voiding an outstanding, unpaid parking ticket.
Individuals who are in possession of an unpaid parking ticket in the City of Albany issued prior to June 7, 2021, may bring that ticket, along with proof of vaccination and photo identification, to the Parking Violations Bureau at Albany City Hall to void the ticket.
Albany City Treasurer Darius Shahinfar said, “This may not be the incentive of free beer or a college scholarship for getting vaccinated, but our City can do our part to both encourage and reward vaccinations to further curtail the pandemic and return us back to normal. This also provides a good opportunity for those with multiple parking tickets to come to the Parking Violations Bureau to address any outstanding tickets.”
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “I commend City Treasurer Shahinfar for implementing this innovative incentive and encouraging our residents to become vaccinated. The sooner those who can get vaccinated do, the sooner everyone – including immunocompromised individuals who cannot receive the vaccine – will be able to put the pandemic behind them.”
Paid parking tickets will not be issued refunds.
