[ARCHIVED] Statement from Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan on Governor Kathy Hochul's FY 2023 Budget Proposal

Contact: David Galin

ALBANY, NY - "Governor Kathy Hochul understands the needs of our state and continues to listen to the needs of our communities, and today's New York State FY 2023 Budget Proposal makes that clear.

Governor Hochul included billions of dollars in her spending plan to combat COVID, invest in infrastructure, enhance public safety, and create more affordable housing. In Albany, this means more money for repairing our roads, replacing the Livingston Avenue Rail Bridge, rebuilding the Wadsworth Laboratories at the Harriman Campus, and supporting proven gun violence prevention programs that helped reduce shootings by more than 30% in 2021.

In addition to those important investments, this budget proposal includes the City of Albany's $15 million request for Capital City Funding - making it clear New York State agrees that Albany is treated like no other city, and that this administration is committed to righting this historic wrong. I am very thankful to Governor Hochul and Budget Director Mujica for their leadership, and look forward to once again working alongside Senator Neil Breslin, Assemblymember Patricia Fahy, and Assemblymember John McDonald to ensure this vital funding is in the final spending plan."
