ALBANY, NY - Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Chief Eric Hawkins, and Police Benevolent Association President Michael Delano have announced the overwhelming ratification of a new contract for Albany's Police Officers and Detectives. This agreement provides Police Officers and Detectives of the Albany Police Department with a 2% raise in 2022 and also includes retroactive raises of 1.25% in 2016, 1.5% in 2017, and 2% in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Police Officers and Detectives have worked under a salary schedule ordered by interest arbitrator since 2016, and the City of Albany was barred from negotiating with the bargaining unit from 2018 until late 2021 as per New York State law.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “Ever since the PBA became the new bargaining unit for our police officers and detectives in October, we have worked closely with PBA President Delano and his team to quickly reach an agreement to provide these valued public servants with long-needed and much-deserved raises. This contract is another example of my administration’s commitment to ensuring our police officers and detectives have the training, equipment, and resources necessary to not only keep our residents safe but be a police department our residents are proud of. I am thankful to President Delano and the members of the PBA for their partnership, and look forward to working collaboratively with the PBA in the years to come.”

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins said, “The men and women of the Albany Police Department will always have my unwavering support and I could not be more proud of the work they perform each day in our community. I would like to congratulate the Albany Police Benevolent Association on their well-deserved contract and look forward to working with them as we continue to build upon the many successes we as a police department have achieved.”

Albany Police Benevolent Association President Michael Delano said, “Our membership is relieved to have finally reached an agreement and we appreciate the City’s willingness to make sure our officers receive retroactive payment for these raises. We are now looking forward to working with the City on a contract for the future, one that strengthens the department’s ability retain our valuable police officers.”
