ALBANY, NY – This week, Mayor Kathy Sheehan has traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, to attend the 92nd Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), joining nearly 200 other U.S. mayors to discuss the latest challenges facing American cities, such as enhancing public safety, expanding mental health services, improving access to affordable housing at every income level, and revitalizing our infrastructure.
At the meeting, Mayor Sheehan will exchange innovative solutions, communicate with top federal officials including members of President Biden’s leadership team, and discuss a unified agenda for cities ahead of the November presidential election. Mayors will also vote on policy resolutions that will guide the Conference’s activities.
By attending, Mayor Sheehan is ensuring the needs of Albany are reflected and advanced in these policy discussions and empowering Albany to access the historic level of federal funding available through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act.
Mayor Sheehan, Chair of the USCM Women’s Leadership Alliance, will also lead two conversations during the annual meeting: a breakout session on Thursday, June 20 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm CT (4:30pm to 5:30pm ET) entitled “Combating Gender Bias: Effective Media Strategies for Female Leaders” and a plenary session on Friday, June 21 at approximately 12:30pm CT (1:30pm ET) entitled “The 2024 Election and Female Voters: Strategies to Boost Voter Turnout.” The plenary session will be streamed live via Conference’s YouTube channel and social media platforms.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “I am excited to join my fellow mayors once again for the U.S. Conference of Mayors 92nd Annual Meeting. After President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, and Congressman Tonko delivered for Albany and cities across the nation with the American Rescue Plan Act, Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS and Science Act, mayors are focused on utilizing these legislative victories to benefit our residents in every way possible. This gathering will be an opportunity to learn from one-another, share best practices, and meet with our federal leaders to continue advocating for additional investments to revitalize our infrastructure, enhance public safety, combat climate change, expand mental health services, and create more affordable housing.”
USCM CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran said, “The U.S. Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting is a cornerstone for collaboration, where mayors from across the nation come together to drive meaningful change, share successes, and tackle the challenges we all face. Kansas City’s rich heritage and dynamic growth will be the ideal setting for this critical dialogue and partnership for mayors to share the future of our cities.”
For planning purposes, please find a draft agenda and list of registered mayors. All plenary sessions will be streamed live on the Conference’s YouTube channel and social media platforms.
