ALBANY, NY – Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Department of General Services Commissioner Sergio Panunzio have announced that the City of Albany Compost Facility, located at One Richard J. Conners Blvd., Albany, New York 12204, will close for the season on Friday, November 13, 2020.

Residents who wish to pick up compost or topsoil or to drop off yard waste before the end of the season should make plans to get to the compost facility this week.  For more information visit the compost facility website.

The Department of General Services will continue to collect lawn and leaf bags. Residents are reminded that lawn and leaf refuse bags should be placed curbside on the same day as your garbage pickup day. Grass, leaves and other yard waste debris must be placed in biodegradable paper bags approved for such use, and branches must be bundled and tied together and should not exceed 4 feet long. Raking leaves into the streets creates an unnecessary burden on the street sweepers and results in the leaf loads consuming valuable landfill space when they should be organically recycled. Occasionally, the Department of General Services does experience delays in lawn and leaf refuse bag pickup, however the Department is committed to picking up the bags as soon as possible.
