Ginnie Farrell was elected in 2017 as the Albany Common Council representative for the 13th Ward. In 2019, she was elected by her peers on the Council to the leadership position of Majority Leader. She is Chair of the Law, Buildings and Code Enforcement Committee and serves on the Finance, Assessment and Taxation Committee as well as the Human Resources and Human Rights Committee. She is a past member of the Planning, Economic Development, and Land Use Committee.
Councilmember Farrell currently works for the NYS Assembly as the legislative analyst for the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee in the Chair, Assemblymember Deborah Glick’s, office. She began her work in the Assembly with local Assemblymember Pat Fahy. Ginnie formerly served on the Albany School Board in various roles, including Board President. She is still involved with Albany schools as the President of the Board for the Albany Fund for Education and most importantly as mom of Albany High students Andrew and Ellie, and AHS graduate and University of Buffalo Engineering student, Owen.
In her years as a stay at home mom, Ginnie volunteered extensively in Albany Public Schools, spending over 2000 hours doing crazy art and gardening projects, and helping kids with reading among many other things. She also spent time teaching art classes to kids and adults at the Albany Art Room. Ginnie still makes art, usually for non-profit silent auctions, and is one of those people who wakes up early to go to the gym. She knits badly but ardently, finds ridiculous covers to play on her ukulele, and dotes on her dog, Milo.
