Tom Hoey is a dedicated politician whose parents paved the way for his commitment to this great City and his constituents. As the Son of immigrants from Ireland Tom learned at an early age the importance of education and public service.
Honorable Hoey was first elected to the Common Council for the 15th Ward in 2017 and subsequently re-elected in 2021. In addition to leading the Fifteen Ward, he continues to be a Democratic Committeeman for his ward since 2010.
Hoey moved to the 15th Ward in 1989 when he was hired as a Network Engineer by the University at Albany where he still works as a Design Engineer for new and rehabbed buildings. Before joining the staff at the University of Albany, Tom was an Officer for Citicorp where he managed the network for its 500 seat Trading floor for 10 years. Tom’s dedication to service is reflected in every aspect of his personal and professional life. His commitment to service can be seen in every role from his serving as the Eagle Hill Neighborhood Association Treasurer (2012 to 2017) to his current role as the leader of the 15th Ward. Honorable Hoey was elected as a Statewide Membership Development Officer for United University Professions representing 44,000 Academic and Professional Faculty across the state who work for the State University of New York.
Tom’s academic pedigree includes an Associate of Science Degree from Kingsborough Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Regents College. He is a Lieutenant and a licensed private pilot in the U.S. Airforce Civil Air Patrol and has certifications from the Air Force in Search and Rescue and Incident Command Leadership. Tom is certified in SCUBA and a Licensed Soccer Coach and is currently managing his son’s Soccer Team with the Bethlehem Soccer Club. He is married to Leah and they have one child together Max and two stepchildren Barent Staats and Emily King. It is Tom’s passion for his community, constituents, and family that motivates him to be a steward of the 15th ward.
