Project Scope

First Street, from Judson Street to Lexington Avenue
First Street Reconstruction Project

The First Street Reconstruction Project is set to transform First Street, from Judson Street to Lexington Avenue, enhancing road conditions, pedestrian safety, and the overall street environment. This revitalization will also benefit local institutions, including Hood’s House of Hoops (HHH), a key community organization based on First Street.

Project Funding:

  • Design Costs: $120,000
  • Construction Costs: $580,000
  • Funding Source: City bonded funds, with reimbursement through the NYSDOT “CHIPs” program

Project Team:

  • Design & Construction Inspection: Weston & Sampson Engineering
  • Construction General Contractor: New Castle Paving, LLC
  • Construction Project Management: City of Albany Department of Engineering

Preliminary Scope of Work:

  • Roadway Improvements: Mill, resurface, and stripe the roadway to provide a smoother and safer driving experience.
  • Sidewalk Upgrades: Replace concrete sidewalks and maintenance strips to improve safety and accessibility.
  • Curb Replacement: Install new full granite curbs to enhance functionality and aesthetics.
  • Tree Planters: Introduce new “Flexipave” tree planters to support tree health and enhance street appeal.
  • Drainage Enhancements: Install new drainage structures to improve street drainage and mitigate flooding.
  • Sidewalk Repairs: In-fill and repair hazardous sidewalk areas to ensure pedestrian safety.
  • Signage Replacement: Update or replace signage as needed for better clarity and visibility.

Schedule:

  • Construction Start Date: August 21, 2024
  • Substantial Completion: November 1, 2024
  • Final Completion: November 21, 2024

Founded by Jamil Hood, HHH has a proven track record of fostering relationships across communities from the Capital Region to Rochester, Buffalo, New York City, and Massachusetts. Offering year-round training programs for all skill levels, HHH serves nearly 450 participants weekly, providing safe and engaging athletic opportunities for youth. Committed to supporting families, HHH believes that sponsorship not only benefits their programs but also strengthens the communities they serve.
