Election Day:

Tuesday, November 2, 2021 - polls are open on Election Day from 6am to 9pm

Early Voting (Saturday, October 23 through Sunday, October 31, 2021):

  • Saturday & Sunday: 9am to 2pm
  • Monday & Wednesday: 12pm to 8pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday: 9am to 5pm

City of Albany residents can vote early at any of these locations: 

City of Albany General Election 2021

The City of Albany Offices of Mayor, City Treasurer, Chief City Auditor, City Court Judge, President of the Common Council, and Member of the Common Council (15 positions) are on the General Election Ballot.

Additionally, NYS Supreme Court Justice, 3rd Judicial District (3 positions), County Court Judge, County Clerk, and County Coroner (2 positions) are on the General Election Ballot.

The following propositions for local laws that require referendum  will be included in the upcoming regular election on November 2, 2021. These propositions will be written as you see below.

Proposition for Local Law L of 2020

Shall the Charter of the City of Albany be amended to require any person seeking election as a member of the Common Council to be an elector and resident of the ward for which the person is seeking election for a continuous period of at least three hundred sixty-five (365) days prior to taking office and during the entire term of office, except in limited circumstances following reapportionment of Common Council wards?

Proposition for Local Law J or 2020

Shall Article XLIV of Chapter 42 of the Code of the City of Albany be amended to increase the Community Police Review Board’s authority and ability to conduct investigations and to exercise oversight, review, and resolution of community complaints alleging abuse of police authority?

Absentee Voting

Register to Vote

Register to vote in New York State. You can also use this online service to join a political party, change your party designation, or update your name and address on file with the Board of Elections.
