Passports and the City Clerk’s Office
The City Clerk’s Office is a designated passport acceptance facility and will assist you with the submission of passport application documentation. Appointment hours for passport application processing are 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Once all necessary documentation is collected, please call the City Clerk's Office at 518-434-5090 to set up an appointment for passport services. Please bring all necessary documentation and sufficient funds for application processing. Applicants should anticipate a 10 to 20 minute wait for their application to be processed within the office. Larger groups will have a longer processing time.
Please note: Passports are not issued at the City Clerk's Office and will be mailed by the United States Department of State to the address provided on your application.

An application may also be rejected if the:
- Application is not completed in black ink (forms must be hand-written or typed in black ink)
- Application contains errors that have been whited-out, covered, or otherwise obscured
- Application is a previous version
If you were born in the City of Albany, NY and need your birth certificate to complete your application, you can visit the Vital Statistics Office while in City Hall, Room 254M (press 'M' in the elevator or take the stairs up from the City Clerk's Office).
Marriage License Certified Copy
If you need a certified copy of your marriage license to document a name change and you were married in the City of Albany, the City Clerk's Office is able to provide that to you. The fee for a certified copy is $10.00. The City Clerk's Office is currently only accepting cash.
Please be prepared to provide two separate payment methods during your appointment. When applying at an acceptance facility, you will need to pay two fees. The first “Execution Fee” is payable to the facility, while the second is based on the type of passport being requested and is payable to the U.S. Department of State:
