Albany Police Department Internship Program
Enrolling in an internship with the Albany Police Department is a great opportunity for individuals who have an interest in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement & Public Safety. The Albany Police Department prides itself on assisting, helping, and connecting to our community. This program gives Intern applicants a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and insight of how our modern, multi-faceted, accredited Police Department operates on daily basis.
As part of the Albany Police Department Internship Program, the participants of this program are not paid, however, candidates will have an opportunity to work with sworn officers and non-sworn staff doing real police work with the best equipment and technology the field has to offer, in a large city environment.
Intern Applicants can have the chance to visit our various units/stations that include:
Center Station Patrol Division, South Station Patrol Division, Detective Units – comprising of our Criminal Investigation Unit, Children & Family Services Unit, and/or Forensics Investigation Unit, Traffic Safety including our Special Operation Units - K-9 and Mounted Units, Central Booking/Courts, Neighborhood Engagement Unit, Administrative Services Unit, Communications Unit/911 Dispatch Center and the Crime Analyst Center.

Interns interested in participating in the internship program must initiate the application process by submitting the application at the bottom of this page. General Internship responsibilities and expectations
- All interns shall demonstrate and conduct themselves in a positive and professional manner.
- All interns must sign and adhere to the Albany Police Department confidentiality agreement.
- An internship provided by the Albany Police Department can be rescinded at any time based on conduct and productivity.
- No weapons or contraband are allowed within the department buildings (i.e. pocket knives, lighters etc.). -Your scheduled hours will be discussed prior to your first day. The program coordinator can work with you to accommodate your scheduling needs.
- If you are unable to make your scheduled hours you're expected to contact your program coordinator. - Arrive in a timely manner for scheduled hours.
- Dress code is business casual.
Duties
- Interns will be responsible for Clerical duties, Customer service, and assisting in scheduled Community events.
- Interns can also do ride-alongs and participate in other daily APD activities and additional projects in various Units/Stations. Application Processing
A background investigation is conducted on applicants that are selected for internships opportunities . The successful applicant will also need to under go fingerprinting at their own expense. However applicants can have opportunities for assistance.
