Administration

The Albany Department of Fire and Emergency Services Administration Division is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the general administrative, operational and financial services for the Albany Fire Department. Additionally, the Administration Division will assist in policy development and implementation for the Department while working directly with the Chief of Department in all aspects of government, business, administrative and financial matters.

Training and Safety

The Albany Department of Fire and Emergency Services Division of Training and Safety (DOTS) is responsible for the on-going training for both Fire and Emergency Medical Service and implementation of safety standards for all firefighters within the Department. The Albany Department of Fire and Emergency Services is an "All Hazards" Fire Department. Our goal is to be prepared for these responses through quality training and preparedness.

Training for personnel includes:

  • Fire Suppression and Prevention
  • Hazardous Materials Mitigation
  • Maritime Emergencies
  • Swift Water Rescue
  • Technical Rescue

Fire Investigation/Prevention

The Albany Fire Department Fire Prevention and Investigation Unit (FPIU) is responsible for the investigation of all fires and explosions involving structures, vehicles, or victims, and shall be called to investigate any suspicious fires, suspected arson, or juvenile fire setters. The FPIU responds to incidents involving imminent life safety issues as well as fire alarm issues and fire suppression issues. In addition, the FPIU is responsible for enforcement of the New York State Fire Code within the City of Albany.
